Not sure if anyone else has had experiences like this with the anti-vax crowd, but I've got a couple relatives who truly believe that vaccinations caused autism in 2 of their 3 children. (The third is still a bit too young to tell, but was not vaccinated, and is starting to show signs of autism anyway.) They'll scream that it was the vaccines that did that to their children because that's the only explanation they want to believe. It's hard to just say it, but it needs to be said: it wasn't the vaccines; it was your ***** genetics. *I'm absolutely not promoting eugenics*, but when two people are extremely likely to give birth to children that will never be able to function without lots and lots of assistance their entire lives, and keep having kids, it's extremely selfish on their part. But hey, blame the scientists and the doctors...
I like Death Valley.

... they *are* practically giving it away. The 16GB iPhone build cost is ~$179 (just in parts, never mind shipping, support services, turtlenecks, profit, etc.) and they sell it for $199.?
What benefits? Grah, I'm not trying to defend the oil companies, I'm not trying to say global warming isn't real, but as long as we are primarily dependent upon fossil fuels as energy sources, I don't see how this will do anything to actually affect the problem of global warming. To stop the effects of global warming, we would need a major overhaul of our entire energy infrastructure, and that won't even be remotely feasible anytime soon. Until then, anything we do is simply drops in the bucket, and while I'm not saying we shouldn't do anything, I just don't understand why we should be blowing so much money on climate change legislation that won't really even make a difference. |

Knowing this, we need to curb greenhouse gas emissions by creating and infrastructure that encourages alternatives, which isn't going to happen by itself overnight. In doing so we reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, which is inevitable. We need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels, not throw our hands up saying that we depend on it so to hell with everything else!"That we are pumping CO2 into out atmosphere is accidental. Nobody knew when the combustion engine was invented that it would be a problem and I'm still not sure it is."We may not have known the effects of CO2 then, but we know it now.The majority of reputable climatologists who are actively involved in climate research will tell you that we need to act on this immediately and with wartime urgency if we are to have a chance of averting catastrophic weather events and climate shifts in the near future. However, the denialists strive to pick up on inconsequential aspects of the science and attempt to confuse, obfuscate and delay any action with the premise that "it will cost the economy" (sadly for us and our planets biodiversity, this tactic seems to be working). This group seems to regard CO2 pollution as an entitlement and not a cost to the environment, and that, broadly, is the role of cap & trade/carbon taxing; to enforce an economic view of CO2 pollution.We are sure of what we're doing and why we're doing it. It' snot for global domination, a cash grab, a NWO or the erosion of personal freedoms. It's to preserve the planet for future generations to come. |
